Trifonov Stuns the Crowd on a Fazioli - 2019 Tchaikovsky Competition Opening Gala Concert

The International Tchaikovsky Competition, one of the most anticipated events in the classical music world, takes place every four years and has been called the Olympics for musicians. The 13-day competition, which runs June 17–29, 2019, in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, is being broadcast by the Medici TV platform (https://tch16.medici.tv/en/piano/).


The competition kicked off in grand style with an opening gala concert at Moscow Conservatory’s Grand Hall, featuring the Mariinsky Orchestra led by Valery Gergiev, with the pianist Daniil Trifonov as soloist. The performance received multiple standing ovations and the Rachmaninov encores are particularly inspiring played on the beautiful Fazioli.
